I love my dogs unconditionally, and as an avid dog lover, I want for my Golden Retriever to have as comfortable of a sleeping experience as I do in my big queen-sized bed. Since I have a rule in my house of no animals on the furniture, and I have struggled before with smaller, poorly made dog beds, I found the perfect solution in investing in a Big Barker Dog Bed for my dog to sleep on. This product is exactly what I have been looking for to provide a comfortable place for my dog to rest, and has made it so much easier to keep my dog from even considering sneaking up onto the couch or on my bed at night. My satisfaction with this product is what inspired me to write this Big Barker Dog Bed review.

The Big Barker Dog Bed has been perfect for my needs for several reasons. There are a lot of dog beds on the market that are small, flimsy, poorly manufactured, or just plain uncomfortable to offer to your dog as a place to sleep. When I found the Big Barker Dog Bed, I carefully compared it to other products on the market, and I knew that I was making the correct choice. If your dog has become dependent upon climbing up into your bed or onto your couch cushions at night, or if you are trying to train your dog to make the transition to sleeping on his or her own, this honestly has been the best solution that I could find, and I am very pleased with my choice. A lot of the dog beds that I have found in big box stores are carelessly made, offer no support for a dog’s developing or aging muscles and joints, are too small, are mass produced in foreign countries under precarious conditions, and they offer no warranty to ensure quality control.

Essentially, the Big Barker Dog bed functions like a supportive mattress for your pet. It offers a therapeutic cushion that is intentionally designed to provide a resting spot for dogs over fifty pounds. What I like about this dog bed is that it’s crafted specifically with the needs of larger dogs in mind. It provides adequate cushioning to support their joints, and the cushion is appropriately sized for my large dog to spread out, stretch, and get comfortably cozy! Furthermore, it’s an American made product, which for me is an important decision in ensuring that I am investing in a quality item that is not imported from precarious places with questionable materials or poor quality control. One of the things that I like best is that the company backs this product with a 10 year warranty. They ensure that the dog bed cannot and will not flatten, and they promise that the orthopedic foam cushioning will last a full decade without compromising support. If this is not the case, they guarantee that they will send you a new one!

The main unique feature that the Big Barker Dog Bed brand boasts is that it specifically designed for large dogs. In fact, there are three different sizes available for purchase. The large measures 48” x 30” x 7”, and it is ideal for Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Boxers, and other dogs under 25 inches tall. The extra large measures 52” x 36” x 7”, and it is designed for dogs larger than Labs, but smaller than Great Danes. The extra large is great for Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Newfoundlands, and Mastiffs.. The giant measures 60” x 48” x 7”, and is designed with dogs the size of Great Danes in mind. If you have a smaller dog, this is not the appropriate dog bed to purchase. The cushions will not appropriately support their weight. However, for dogs smaller than 50 pounds, the Barker Junior is available and more suitable for pets of that size.

The problem that I have found with normal dog beds is that they offer no joint support, are undersized for larger animals, and they are mass produced in China with no warranty. This product meets all of the needs for larger dog owners and assures quality of the brand over time. The Big Barker ships compressed in a box, but after opening the packaging, I was amazed by how quickly the dog bed enlarged to its full size and shape. The internal cushioning layered with a two inch comfort foam bed base, a three inch layer of supportive foam, another two inch layer of comfort foam at the surface, and it features a four inch headrest for your pet. These layers of support ensure that the cushioning will not sag under the weight of your dog and cause immense discomfort. The Big Barker Dog Bed never flattens! It stays cool, it’s easy to clean, has durable covers, do not emit chemical odors or gasses, and the liners are waterproof. For me, watching my oversized dog rest comfortably on this mattress all night has given me peace of mind that I made the right decision in my investment.

In addition to the three sizes offered by the company’s website, there are more customizations that can be made to this dog bed. Each dog bed comes with four color options: a clean khaki, a deep chocolate brown, a posh shade of burgundy, and a sleek charcoal gray. It makes sense to match the bed color to your home decor, but the website also advises matching the color to your dog’s fur. Khaki works best for lighter colored dog and for hiding your dog’s drool or saliva. Chocolate, on the other hand is best for hiding darker colored dog fur. Burgundy works best for all fur colors except for white. Ultimately, I selected the khaki color for my Golden Retriever, as I did not want for his fur to be so readily apparent, especially during shedding season. Regardless of your choice, it is important to note that the exterior of the dog bed is easily removable and can be cleaned rather quickly in your washing machine.

Upon searching the web for comparable products and reactions from other large dog owners, I can see why so many people have selected these large dog beds. In fact, they have been recommended by veterinarians from both Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. Veterinarians have supported the benefits of Big Barker Dog Beds for dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, joint and mobility issues. Likewise, the dog beds can be used as a preventative measure to avoid early presentation of joint problems as large dogs age. Other reports of happy customers have noted that the mattress helps keep big dogs youthful for longer, and have helped nursed older dogs to feel their best. Apart from dog owners who have purchased these for in-home use, Big Barker beds have been used for K9 police units, at dog rescues and shelters, in veterinary hospitals, and for military service dogs.

Studies have shown that normal dog beds made from memory foam or used with cheap polyfill do not provide support, and they do not hold up over time. This poorly designed material does not support the weight of large dogs. As a result, dog beds of lesser quality produce painful pressure points for your pets. Comparative studies have been performed in order to scientifically demonstrate the superior quality of the Big Barker Dog Bed, and under several tests and comparisons it continues to hold up as the best.

Before I discovered the Big Barker Dog Bed, I had a smaller wool bed, probably stuffed with synthetic filler for my large Golden Retriever. I struggled for weeks to train my dog to sleep in it at first, but now I understand why. He was completely uncomfortable!. My poor Golden Retriever was forced to curl up his spine to fit uncomfortably on top of non-supportive bedding material. Now, my dog can spread out, stretch, roll around, and position his body comfortably in order to take a solid nap, or to sleep all night long. He actually prefers the Big Barker more than my sofa and even my mattress! Honestly, discovering this product has been an amazing solution for both me and him!

Summary

To wrap up my Big Barker Dog Bed review, I have to say that I am 100% satisfied with my choice to purchase the Big Barker for my Golden Retriever. I am a dog lover, and anything that I can do to offer my dog a superior quality of life is a worthwhile investment for the both of us. I have had this dog bed for two months now, and it is no different than the day I first opened it from its packaging. My dog actively chooses to nap or sleep there, and this allows me to not have to worry about him getting up on the furniture, even when I am out of the house. Because the product has been so carefully researched, designed, tested, positively reviewed, and endorsed by veterinarians, it is totally a worthwhile investment. I am sure if my dog could talk, he would agree!
